You own a bahari, and I need to register its paw print.
[It sounds slightly less stupid if he puts it that way.]

Sometimes I feel as though before was some vague dream, so you're not the only one. [ He lifts his glass for another sip, his eyes downcast to the liquid inside before he continues. ]
Five years. It may not seem like such a long time, but I never expected it. [ To live this long, to survive and thrive and find love again. For he has, he won't deny that. He loves his friends so dearly that he cannot continue pretending there's nothing left inside of his chest. ] You'd like the Captain. He commands a guard that is loyal to no one more than he, save the King. He doesn't need riches nor title to bring us under his leadership. It's his character that does it. [ Athos turns the glass between his fingers, watching the dull light shine off it. ] He believes in you. He did me.
[ Even though when they met Athos was wine soaked and desperate for a blade at his throat. Treville saw the better man. ]

If you've spoken with his mate's owner, then you'd know that not only did the technique not work correctly, but I apologized to the cat afterward.

That's a rubbing, not a print, and it isn't acceptable.

You wouldn't get someone's fingerprints from a spot where they'd stuck their hand in the snow.

Aside from this, snow is too malleable and the rubbing is bound to be inaccurate.

[ She makes his way to his rover sometime early on in the day. She's barely spent time apart from him since day 46. Only when the curfew comes into play, really.
She knocks on his door, feeling the absence of Koroleva at her side waiting to get in to Korol. There's neither now. Another absence she feels heavy on her shoulders and another reason she needs to be close to Nikolai before she loses him too. ]

I've heard about what happened. I won't ask you if you're all right. But if you need me I will be there.
[ Because while he's against this - killing innocent people for survival - he knows it's not that simple. No matter what, people would have died. And he's rather selfishly glad it wasn't Sturmhond. ]

[ The first part makes him smile. He doesn't argue simply because it would be rude to. And he knows Sturmhond means it. Athos is almost never surprised now, when the man is more kind than he would let on. He certainly spends a fair amount of his time trying to soothe over old wounds left in Athos. It makes him a great man, and a great friend besides. ]
If only you could. [ He doesn't want Treville here. He would rather die. But Athos would like for the two men to meet. If he is anything it is of the Captain's making. ] The world could do with a few more good men.

[ She sees that change in posture, something others might not realize the significance of if they saw it. But she does. It's not just about his pain, it's about the fact that he's expressing it at all.
It's oddly comforting. It reminds her that he is human after all.
She comes inside without little more invitation and even goes to sit on his bed. ]
You were? [ She asks, eyes finding his. Then she shrugs. ]
I wanted to be near you for awhile.
