[ Sturmhond is not a man who relies on emotion. This does not mean he doesn't feel them. It means he makes decisions based on reason, which more than once has met putting feelings of resentment aside for the greater good. ]
You don't need to be ruled by your anger, Athos. Forgiveness is not something you feel, but something you decide. You could choose to forgive her.
And forgive yourself, at the same time.
[ He suspects the latter of those decisions is the harder one, in truth. ]
[ He looks up at Sturmhond then, his expression fathomless. He knows what his friend is saying is true. He could choose to forgive her, he could choose to forgive himself. But there's so much putrid guilt entangled inside of him that he isn't sure he'd have the power to raze it.
He feels so old now and so worn down.
But instead of voicing that Athos merely places the empty bottle below his bunk and looks away. ] I'm tired. It's been a very long day. I think I'll retire now. [ It's not as effective as simply walking away but Athos hopes he'll be allowed to retreat with some dignity. ]
[ He doesn't speak another word, he doubts he has to. Sturmhond is a very good friend and Athos is lucky to have him in his life. Sometimes he wonders just how much he can put the poor man through before he realises the error of his ways.
But it's with a nod that he starts to get ready for bed. ]
