[It means plenty of things- is Sturmhond still here, on the planet, fully alive? Is present in his rover, available to talk? In Medical somewhere, hurt, dead-? His thoughts have been scattered at best, and he had to help Jack out of the altercation with the Elder God early, and hasn't found anyone.
[ He is relatively quick to call. It might be somewhat alarming that a small explosion can be heard right before his voice, but he sounds calm enough. ]
CALLING: STURMHOND
David, you were looking for me.
I'm at the edge of camp just now. Is everything all right?
[He's actually a little surprised by the speed at which Sturmhond calls him, and spends a moment silent on the line, grip tight and white knuckled, as his voice registers, and sinks in. There's an explosion, but he sounds fine- unhurt, more concerned about David than himself.
He starts- then stops, and has to wait a moment before trying again, relieved]
CALLING: SHEPHERD, DAVID
Hey, thanks for calling.
[A beat]
Everything's fine. I just wanted to check on you. Was that an explosion, I heard?
[ There are further explosions to be heard, even while they speak. After a moment, it's evident that Sturmhond has moved away from the sound, since it's still audible, but lower. ]
CALLING: STURMHOND
Just a small one. I'm working on a few things, it's nothing to be concerned about.
[ Another little blast, in the distance this time. ]
I'm well. I had my injuries seen to after the fight. Given the luck we've had lately, there'll probably be another one tomorrow.
[Because they just keep going- and them being quieter can be attributed to the foot falls he hears, rather than the explosion size themselves. There are few people he considers more capable than Sturmhond, but- well, after everything and the lack of rest everyone seems to be under, he's concerned anyway]
How badly were you injured? [He makes a soft, slightly distracted hum- because he heard you, sort of. He can't disagree. The native species seems pretty dead set on conflict, and they seem to have plenty of outside help]
Fine. I just added a few bruises. [Because it's true- but nothing worth healing, and nothing worth noting, save for the fact that he's pretty sure he wouldn't get away with solely saying 'fine']
Not badly. And nothing to worry about now, at any rate.
[ He knows that David would. Sturmhond is not really the type to dwell on injuries, anyway; he gets them dealt with when they need to be, and then he carries on. They’re an inconvenience for him, more than anything else. ]
You’d had your share of pain already. I’m glad it didn’t get much worse.
Do you want to join me, David? You’re a capable mechanic. You could help with what I’m doing, I’m sure.
[Guilty as charged. Since the first moment he'd met Sturmhond proper, back on Ajna after the Shai swarmed the drop. He'd had a cut on his head then, one he hadn't bothered taking care of, and gone on to clean up the camp as if it wasn't there. It's set a precedent that David isn't overtly fond of]
I think everyone has. But thank you. For what you did then.
[And for what you're doing now. With each passing minute on the line, the tension eases from his frame, from his voice. There's a bit of gratitude at the question- of not having to figure out how to ask without imposing, and the relief is in his voice]
Sure, I'd like that. It's been awhile since I've gotten to do anything like that. There's something I want to show you, anyway. You said the edge of camp- which direction?
[ Well, now he's curious. The explosions have died away by now, and he's walking back towards where he'd been working. ]
CALLING: STURMHOND
North-East. Use the locator on your cuff, it ought to find me.
[ When David gets there, he'll find him sitting with Korol, mixing powders in a small container. Korol, on scenting David, will stand up and go over to nudge at him. ]
[There's a pause, before he agrees, and then disconnects the call, sliding his blackglass back into his pocket and venturing away from the tent he'd pitched when they'd first arrived on this planet. He's never needed to use the locator on his cuff before, so it takes him a minute to get it working, but once he has, he'll reach Sturmhond shortly]
Sturmhond!
[He'll call out the second he sees him, just so he doesn't startle him if he's gone back to playing with any of the delicate explosives, and then jogs to bridge the rest of the distance to him. His smile is still a little bit too relieved in the edges, but it's warm and genuine. He doesn't even attempt to be discreet in the once over he gives Sturmhond, please to note that he really doesn't have any visible injuries left over.
That finished with, he gives in immediately to Korol's gentle nudging, crouching down to smooth his hands over the bahari's head. Hello to you too]

[ Sturmhond lifts a hand to wave, and he stands up. The powders are left on the ground at his feet, and he's careful not to disturb them as he moves over to meet his friend.
Korol is already seeing to that. He noses at David's stomach, before headbutting him there. It's a sign of affection. ]
I think he remembers your burns. Which I see have healed nicely, by the way. How are you feeling?
[He laughs a little, teetering on the balls of his toes when Korol heatbutts him gently in the stomach, stretching forward to rest his cheek carefully on the carapace coating along his spine, and scrub his hands affectionately along his sides. Like he's any large dog that David has ever owned. He feels guilty, in some measure. In the time he's known Korol, he's been more unwell than he hasn't.
With a last pat though, he stands up, and bridges the distance to his friend, and shrugs lightly in answer]
Yeah, Hope did a really good job. [Perfectly healed over, as if it never was. The only sign that it had ever even happened, being the faintly pink tinge to his skin, newly healed and without the wear and tear of elements and hard work. He's grateful] We were lucky to have him. I feel fine.
[Not quite, likely, what Sturmhond was asking, but all he feels like delving into, at the moment. He's here to check on you, good sir, no the other way around!!]
[ Korol pushes into David during all that petting, and even when it stops, he hovers around him like an overprotective bear. That David has moved out of the rover doesn't matter to Korol; he is still considered one of the pack, one of Korol's humans. He hadn't liked the smell of the burns on him.
Sturmhond settles to lift the bomb parts again, before gesturing to David to join him. ]
I'm glad you do. That means you're in prime condition to help me. I know you're a mechanic, but you've dealt with explosives before, haven't you? On assessment, at the very least.
DAY 101; after things calm
are you here?
