[ He's already packed by the time he tracks down Sturmhond. It isn't easy and his stomach is turning itself into knots with how worried he is about everything. Briefly the idea of telling d'Artagnan or Aramis where he's going crosses his mind, but they would ask him why and he's already done so marvellously at covering that up. So instead he cradles this new tendril of self-loathing in his chest and approaches the only other person he seems to trust in this godforsaken place. ]

[ Sturmhond looks up with a smile, at first, but it fades when he sees the look on Athos' face. His eyebrows lift and he studies the seriousness written in the set of his shoulders. He reaches out to clasp one of those shoulders, to offer wordless support even though his words are about to back it up anyway. ]

[ Sturmhond pauses, surprised. That's not what he expected. Athos had been worried when Sturmhond had been called away, and now Athos is in the same position. ]

Inwardly, it's a different story. He knows those bombs wouldn't have killed Stefan, even if they'd been real. Elena had been fairly specific on what it took to kill a vampire. They're stronger than most, and vulnerable to very particular things. Stefan could probably have gotten rid of it fast enough to prevent anyone from being hurt.
Instead, he'd left Athos to die.
